Principal Engineer

Travix is one of the leading global online travel agencies managing an extensive portfolio of travel-focused websites operating under the brand names CheapTickets, Vliegwinkel, BudgetAir, Flugladen and Vayama. All our brands provide both search and book capability for flight combinations worldwide on both legacy and low cost airlines. In addition, our booking websites offer attractive pricing for hotels, rental cars and other ancillary products such as insurances, airport parking & transfers. We operate our five brands in 37 countries, employ more than 550 people with over 50 different nationalities worldwide. Travix has offices in the Netherlands, Germany, India, Curaçao, Singapore, the UK and the USA.

Principal Engineer

As a Principal Engineer you will be a senior member of a new agile Core team and will be reporting into the Core Development Manager. You will own the design and implementation of an ambitious new project which will significantly improve the Travix online presence. Next to that, you will be responsible for the processes, tools, and implementations of all of Travix’s websites, and provide general support to the various teams as needed.

Principal Engineer Challenges:

  • Own the new project design, taking into consideration performance and quality practices
  • Design and develop, with your team, the new Travix platform, operating with a high degree of freedom and short decision cycles
  • Develop KPI’s for your own and other Product Teams
  • Work in close collaboration with other principals and seniors to define and refine processes and practices
  • Design, code, and test tools for the department
  • Lead code reviews, trainings, and presentations for the teams
  • Be hands-on and coach other team members
  • Work closely with the Development Manager to achieve company wide goals

Core team Challenges:

  • Create, modify, maintain, and operate 30+ high performance distributed websites with 0 downtime and ever increasing number of consumers
  • Operate in a 100% cloud-based environment, based mostly on Javascript (ES6, Node, React, etc), and Go, practicing continuous integration and delivery
  • Continuously improve both the product and the infrastructure/frameworks
  • Deliver on time without letting quality and performance suffer
  • Deliver new tools and technologies to be used throughout the department

What you bring to the table:

  • University degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in multiple environments and technology stacks, from front to back, down to networking
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following:
    • .NET Core
    • Javascript ES6
    • Go
    • SCSS
    • React
  • Knowledge of any of the following is a plus:
    • Classic .NET
    • Java
  • Prior experience as an Architect in a comparable high performance environment in the cloud (we use Google Cloud)
  • A balanced view on “best practices”, with a strong dose of pragmatism, while maintaining a forward looking attitude
  • The capability to be highly effective within and without a team
  • A high drive to achieve, more than to be perfect
  • High degree of accountability, commitment and responsibility
  • A detail oriented and proactive problem solving mindset
  • Exceptional communication skills in English
