Press Release - July 4, 2019

Online travel agent Travix, part of the BCD Group and known for CheapTickets.nlVliegwinkel.nlBudgetAir.co.ukFlugladen.de and Vayama.com, appointed Robbie Strickland as Chief Information Officer (CIO) on 1 July.

Strickland, aged 43 and originating from Atlanta (United States), is an established technology leader with a career spanning over 20 years. He worked in a wide range of sectors, including automated vehicle localisation, weather forecasting and consumer analysis in organisations varying from high-tech start-ups to multinationals. At The Weather Company and MeteoGroup, he and his team developed flexible big data systems for weather forecasts for major players such as the BBC and Maersk Shipping.

Travix is already in the process of transitioning to cloud-based systems. In his role at the OTA, Strickland's experience in building and migrating systems to various cloud infrastructure providers will prove valuable. "Over the past few years, we have put a great deal of effort into developing a team that was able to present a world-class platform. However, we still have plenty of ideas and opportunities in the pipeline, and with his knowledge and experience, Robbie will form an important link in their realisation", explains John Mangelaars, CEO of Travix.
